Role Summary

We are looking for a Health and Safety Specialist to join our team at CHC Helicopter in Aberdeen!

 

The Health and Safety Specialist has the responsibility for overseeing and implementing various HESS programs, which include Health, Environment, Safety and Security (HESS). The Health and Safety Specialist, in collaboration with the Global HESS Manager, will carry out the development and alignment of activities. The Health and Safety Specialist will be responsible for implementing and coordinating activities with the frontline HESS representatives at all bases and offices. In addition to this, this role may have a wider European focus across multiple AOCs and work in conjunction with other Safety & Quality (S&Q) personnel in the EU.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of the Health and Safety Specialist are:

  • Monitor and ensure compliance to local occupational health, environment, safety and security (HESS) legislation and requirements
  • Provide advice and solutions to ensure the delivery of safe operations at the frontline
  • Implement and monitor HESS policies, procedures and programs developed by the global HESS team
  • Be an active member of the global HESS team
  • Perform internal and external HESS audits and monthly workplace safety inspections
  • Conduct investigations and analysis of major and minor injuries
  • Identify trends and causes, as well as follow up on corrective and preventative actions
  • Identify best practices and communicate lessons learned
  • Conduct risk assessments and recommend action plans
  • Identify HESS training needs, develop training presentations and conduct training, including induction HESS training
  • Prepare HESS statistics, identify trends and causes and perform data analysis for management to enable continuous improvement in safety performance
  • Ensure all internal and external HESS reporting is completed on time and with accuracy
  • Promote a culture of workplace safety and environmental responsibility
  • Oversee the health surveillance program
  • Oversee the emergency response plan (ERP) and coordinate emergency exercises
  • Ensure local security compliance and put in place measures as required
  • Manage and oversee local HESS Representatives activities and conduct HESS committee meetings
  • Develop and support environmental protection programs in line with ISO and company requirements
  • Ensure proper onsite waste management program (hazardous, recycling, etc.)
  • Ensure proper chemical management program (PPE, exposure measures, storage, labeling, etc.)
  • May be required to perform other HESS-related duties applicable to the specific location
  • Demonstrate alignment to the CHC Values

Qualifications, Skills & Attributes

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Considerable work experience within HESS and Quality work including audits and investigations
  • Good knowledge of applicable HESS regulatory requirements and guidelines
  • Knowledge of HESS standards, including ISO 14001 and ISO 45001,
  • Familiar within Quality standards, including ISO 9001
  • Lead Auditor qualification in these standards is preferred
  • Experience in Oil and Gas, SAR, and aviation business is preferred
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office software suite
  • Experience with Safety Management Systems is preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
  • Self-motivated and results oriented with a focus on delivery of safety
  • Excellent listening, verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work in a rapidly evolving and dynamic environment
  • Systematic and analytic abilities
  • Be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to create engagement
  • Strong commitment to promoting a safe and healthy work environment
  • Must have the right to live and work in the UK
