Role Summary

We are looking for a Safety & Quality Specialist to join our team at CHC Helicopter in Aberdeen!

 

This role is responsible for the delivery and continuous improvement of CHC SMS systems within the business unit. The role expectation is to openly provide an active interface between the S&Q department, the engineering and airworthiness teams, maintaining the standards of those departments by proactively promoting and applying the principles of the CHC Integrated Safety Management System.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of the Safety & Quality Specialist are:

  • Lead audit activities ensuring they provide effective oversight of maintenance (Part 145), airworthiness (Part CAMO) and Third Party Suppliers
  • Investigate relevant accidents, incidents and matters related to a specified area of expertise (Engineering & Airworthiness) including analysis and development of recommendations to prevent re-occurrence
  • Deliver safety related training to staff and management to improve understanding and performance of the SMS
  • Be a visible safety advocate who will support and develop improvements in overall safety culture and behaviour
  • Support local department managers to undertake specific safety related activities such as: Management of Change; Risk Assessment; Corrective and Preventative Action (CPA) development; SQID transactions; hosting external auditors (regulator, clients etc)
  • Monitor all pertinent proactive and reactive safety reports and where necessary, in conjunction with relevant department managers, ensure that appropriate support is given to deliver follow-up action
  • Develop and update audit checklists, in collaboration with S&Q Management, to align with company procedures, regulations and customer requirements
  • Actively contribute and cooperate toward continuous improvement initiatives and programmes
  • Coordinate, update and administer safety system infrastructure as directed, to meet operational requirements
  • Develop effective and productive relationships with key stakeholders within the management teams and externally with regulators, clients and industry affiliates
  • Provide collection, collation, editing and disseminating of safety information for the promotion of safety awareness
  • Update and support the control of the safety and quality database

Qualifications, Skills & Attributes

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Auditor Accreditation to ISO9001 or aviation specific
  • Possess or have held professional aviation accreditations such as maintenance engineer licences, responsible (nominated) person approval from an NAA
  • Good knowledge of UK and EASA (or similar) regulations applicable to Part 145 & Part CAMO
  • Demonstrated experience as an Auditor or Lead Auditor
  • Accredited training in Aviation Safety Management disciplines is preferred
  • Incident Investigator qualification is preferred
  • Experience as part of or leading an Incident Investigation is preferred
  • Have evidenced training within an aviation support function such as Logistics & Supply Chain, engineering workshop, MRO etc is preferred
  • Relevant experience in Rotary Wing Offshore / SAR Air Operators environment is preferred
  • Experience with Safety Management Systems is preferred
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office software suite
  • Be self-motivated and results oriented with a focus on delivery of safety
  • Excellent listening, verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work in a rapidly evolving and dynamic environment
  • Be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to participate and deliver outcomes within a team of aviation professionals
  • Must have the right to live and work in the UK
